Paired wine tasting menu The Farm
We had a fantastic meal at The Farm on Adderley, located in Ditmas Park. In the spirit of The Omnivore’s Dilemma, this cozy restaurant believes in sustainable eating, local produce and transparency in their produce sources, offering a list of the purveyors for all of their foods.

The meal consisted of a prix-fixe menu: five courses, paired with five wines, all from the Albani Family, from the Oltrepo Pavese region of Italy. The pairings were perfect–from the toffee, pineapple flavors of the delicious Riesling, to the dark, rich sip of the Vigne Della Casona. Below is the list of dishes and their accompanying wines:
The Menu:
FIRST
Pan-Seared Skate, jerusalem artichoke purée, apples and celery
Riesling, 2006
SECOND
Braised Chestnuts, beets and concord grapes
Bonarda “Vivace”, 2006
THIRD
Beef Crudo, filet of pastured beef, juniper, sage, cranberry, jicama
Barbera, 2006
FOURTH
Braised Lamb Gnocchi, tuscan kale, natural jus, parmesan
Vigne Della Casona, 2001
FIFTH
Homemade Goat’s Milk Ricotta, chocolate brioche and figs
Vino di Uve Stramature, Delibes Rosso NV
The chestnuts, which might seem mealy to some palates, became flavorful, defined under the light zing of the Vivace wine.
The Beef Crudo dish tasted like Christmas and took off in our mouths, with a variety of textures and powerful individual flavors.
The chocolate brioche was dusted lightly with fleur de sel, reminiscent of the traditional bread, chocolate, salt and olive oil snack often eaten in Catalonia.
